June brings not one but two guest artists to First Avenue Coffee; Tiffany Patterson and Margaret Mount will both be showing as part of Spokane Queer Art Walk. Music performed by Stephen Shoemaker.
Artist bios: Tiffany Patterson is a Spokane, WA based multidisciplinary visual artist. Her art is narrative in nature and she thinks of it as snapshots into another realm. She is interested in the many facets of the idea of home and using art as therapy to decode her experiences.
Title of work: I am the Future!
Artist Group: Craftivists of the Inland Northwest
Artist Facilitator: Margaret Mount
Margaret Mount is an artist who works primarily in fibers including, textile collage, embroidery, and weaving who believes in doing her part in creating an environmentally sustainable and socially just world.
She is the founder of Craftivists of the Inland Northwest, a community group that uses craft to respond to issues in our world that concern them.
The project “I am the future!” is a means of celebrating the diversity of our community and as a response to the ever increasing anti-immigrant, racist, and xenophobic fear of all that are “different” in this country. Onto baby onesies, participants have stitched the words “I am the future of the United States of America (or my community)” in as many languages spoken in our community and beyond as possible (divergence from the script has been welcomed as long as the message is immigrant and diversity positive).
